Everybody is looking for purpose and fulfillment in life. God made us for a special purpose. HE called us for something and in living in this calling we can find fulfillment in life.
Firstly, you are called to live in a deep and intimate relationship to God. God made us humans because he wanted to have fellowship with us. From the very beginning it is the purpose of your life to love God. With everything you are and everything you have. Our first and most important calling is our friendship to God. Live first of all in this prior purpose of your life: fellowship with God. Spend time in His presence, worship him, read his word, listen to his voice. Strengthen your relationship to God. Grow closer to his heart and get to know him better. Strive to become more and more like him.
Your life is first of all about loving God, about bringing joy to his heart. First of all, it’s not about doing anything but all about being in his presence, in permanent community with him.
And then, God not only made us for fellowship with him but also for communion with other Christians. As one body, one soul and one spirit we are meant to carry each other burdens (Galatians 6:2). We are made to fight together. We are called to live in deep community with each other, laughing togehter and crying togehter, listening to and comforting each other, encouraging and supporting one another.
Whether in church, in a small group, in discipleship, mentoring or with good friends we are called to share our lives, our triumphs as well as our struggles. God’s intention was never that we would have to deal with the hardships of our lives on our own. That’s why he made us for community. As Christians we have to move closer together at the front. Only together we can win the fight and make it to the finish line.
Imagine what potential lies within the deep community with other Christians. How much can we learn from each other, how much more can we grow together, how much stronger can we be if we stick together, carrying each others burdens?
However, our calling as children of God doesn’t end here. If we only stay in community with God and with other Christians we miss out one very important part of our calling. Cause God also has an individual calling for your life in specific. God has called every single one of his children to reach out to other people. And our God is creative. He wants to fulfill this purpose in a billion different ways. There’s no one God couldn’t use and there’s nothing that couldn’t be helpful in God’s kingdom. Don’t be scared. There’s so much potential inside of you waiting to be discovered and set free. What do you love doing? What are you passionate about? What kind of people are on your heart? Who do you long to reach? What are your burning for?
Use what God placed inside of you. Use your passions, your talents, your skills, your abilities, your time, your knowledge and your gifts to serve in God’s kingdom and to show God’s love to people who don’t know him yet.
I am convinced we can only experience fulfillment when we’re living in all of these three dimensions we are called to. Don’t miss out any of it because all of them are essential for a healthy and meaningful christian life. Strive to grow in each of these three areas every day wherever you are. This is living our lives for a purpose that is bigger than ourselves.
